DECEMBER 2019

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Sisters
Just a note to the callers, please remind your list of members of the Christmas Social, Dec. 7 at Colonial Vista from 11:30 to 1:30. See Teri’s article for details! No need to report to me.

As Area 8 Liaison, I visited our Coulee Dam chapter, Beta Upsilon, on their 39th birthday celebration at the La Presa Restaurant. Cathy Johnson presented an interesting program about books she has read featuring strong women. The food there was fabulous, their group delightful, their president, Caryn Mills, led an informal meeting before the program and cake discussing their Christmas Bazaar fundraiser. I plan to attend again…in the spring! It was a windy night and I think I was blown home along with the tumbleweeds!

Looking forward to a fun social,
Rosa Eilert, President

Robert Sez: "Move, Second, Vote and Pass.....Have a very Merry Christmas." From Marilyyn Weaver, Parliamentarian

Happy Holidays to all our members! It is a busy time for all, especially those providing their talent for the various musical/cultural events and Zeta chapter appreciates you. Teri, Rosa, and I want to thank all who come to the meetings and participate in the activities including program, food preparation/serving, and listening to what is planned for upcoming months—you are valuable!

There has been much discussion about literacy projects and how the chapter can reach out to those persons in need in our community. Right now we want to find out more about the literacy program at the Methodist Church which also includes childcare and expand our knowledge of how the money is used that we donate from the birthday fund to the Literacy Council. A question we are asking “Is there a need for the school supplies that you have donated to be used in any of these programs? Our school supplies collected this year are less so may need to change our direction for distribution. Any and all ideas are welcome—talk to me,
Mardine. Keep Smiling!

Wonder ........ why Eva Anderson (1889 to 1972) is so important to us.

....because in 1942 Dr. Eva Anderson started it all! A Wenatchee resident, Eva was the Alpha Sigma State Founder and one of the 21 charter members for Zeta chapter.
Dr. Anderson was quite the gal... a high school teacher in both Chelan and Douglas county, world traveler, wife, historian, and legislator. She received a PhD from U of W and later served as a member of their board of regents. She served 6 terms as state representative from Chelan Co and wrote several books on the history of our valley and its people. She was a leader in interviewing several local pioneer citizens in the 40's and shared those stories in her books. Members of Zeta chapter are so proud to still be an active group of women educators. A group that started 77 years ago and is now part of an international organization.

We honor her memory each December, in a small way, as we enjoy her special spiced tea at our Christmas social, as she did with her Zeta group so many years ago. This year’s social is again at Colonial Vista, December 7, at 11:30 to 1:30. Please bring a $10 gift to exchange an hors d'oeuvre to share, your singing voice and a friend.
